Profile

Artist Statement

Edward Humphrey is a fine artist who paints intriguing portraits with captivating expressions. He is always drawn to the strong emotion in the portraits captured by established Australian artists, Ben Quilty, Natasha Walsh and Guido Maestri.

Edward's practice primarily revolves around acrylic paints. He works with this medium in a fast-paced process that allows him to build rich, luminous tones whilst maintaining spontaneity and energy in his work. Beyond technique, Edward focuses on capturing the emotional vitality of each subject, transforming them into dynamic and lively pieces that resonate deeply with art enthusiasts and collectors.

Edward is an alumnus of the renowned National Art School with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, and TAFE with a Certificate IV in Arts and Cultural Administration. Notable achievements include securing a spot in the prestigious Salon des Refusés, becoming a finalist in the Archibald Portrait Prize, and selection for the Bluethumb Art Prize.
